Welcome to the personal page for Ian Terry. Ian is an award winning audio/music engineer/producer with over thirty years in the technical and creative world of audio recording. Audio/Music Recording & Mixing Recordings engineered and produced for CD & Records (over 400), Advertising (over 5000 commercials), Film (over 50 film scores {most recently, "Screamers" [Allegro-CBS-Fox], and "The Assignment" [Allegro-Sony-TriStar]}, many mixed in Dolby Surround, SRD & SDDS), and Television (more than 150 TV shows and music specials). Ian has worked with major Record labels such as Capitol, CBS-Sony, A&M, WEA, BMG, Justin Time. Artists recorded/mixed include Celine Dion, David Bowie, Peter Frampton, Diana Krall, Leonard Cohen, April Wine, Mahogany Rush, Johnny Haliday, Cirque du Soleil, Oliver Jones, World Saxophone Quartet, Oscar Peterson, Montreal Jubilation Choir, DD Jackson, Andre Gagnon and hundreds of others in the jazz and pop fields.Studio Management From 1976 to 1996 Ian was responsible for the management and technical development of Studio Tempo, from Chief Engineer to Vice- President-Owner. Studio Tempo was a two room 24 track audio recording facility dedicated to the highest quality audio recording and had a technical and creative staff of seven full time employees, all of whom were managed by Ian. Studio Tempo specialized in the recording of music for CD, Film and TV, as well as audio post for Film and Television and set the standards for excellence that other studios emulated. Studio Tempo was sucessfully sold in 2002 to a post-production house after thirty years of doing business.Music Production As a producer, Ian was responsible for the management of budgets, interfacing with record company executives, coordination of creative and technical personnel, as well as artistic and creative decision making for a great number of audio productions, many of which received awards and/or Platinum or Gold Status.EducationIan created for the Minister of Education (Quebec-Canada) a course entitled "Esthetics of Musical Production" in 1992 and taught this course as well as Studio Recording Techniques in public and private colleges for 7 years. Ian is on the advisory board for the "Development of New Programs" of Humber College (Toronto-Canada).SeminarsFrom 1990 to 1999, Ian initiated and organized many business and technical conferences in the USA and Canada. Seminar topics include; Surround Sound applications, CD Mastering, New and Emerging Technologies and Digital Audio Workstation Shoot-outs. Ian initiated and chaired a prestigious seminar on digital audio technology in Singapore and Hong Kong for the region's professionals in 1994. He brought together, as seminar speakers, three of the world's foremost producer/engineer-artists - Alan Parsons (Alan Parsons Project), Roger Nichols (Steely Dan) and Ian Silvester (DAT UK). He was invited to an industry conference in 2004 to present a seminar on the proper use of compressors, (hardware & software), in a studio environment.
